Andrew R. Basile, Jr.

Andrew Basile is a shareholder co-located in the firm's Troy Michigan, and Palo Alto California offices. Prior to joining Young Basile, Mr. Basile was a partner in the Bay Area offices of Cooley Godward, where he managed the 18-attorney information technology practice in that firm's San Francisco office.

Practice Summary:

Mr. Basile concentrates his practice on intellectual property and technology transactions relating to software, hardware, electronics, semiconductors and the Internet.

An experienced patent attorney, he manages large patent portfolios and frequently provides clients with opinions and strategic advice in regard to infringement and other contested matters.

He also handles a wide variety of technology-related commercial transactions including alliances and licenses. He provides intellectual property advice to issuers, underwriters, buyers and sellers in corporate transactions such as IPOs and mergers.

Representative Clients:

Mr. Basile has worked with hundreds of clients, ranging in size from start-ups to Fortune 500 corporations. These have included Nissan, Abbott, the US Postal Service (e-commerce) , Synopsys (software) and LeapFrog (electronic learning).

He has also worked with numerous start-ups, helping them establish partnerships and distribution channels, tune business models, raise capital and bring products to market.

Publications:

Mr. Basile speaks and writes frequently in the areas of intellectual property and technology transactions. He is a contributing author to the books Online Law (Addison Wesley, 1996), Mass Market Software License Agreements (Software Publishers Association, 1996) and Internet Law for the Business Lawyer (American Bar Association, 2001).

Professional Activities:

Mr. Basile is a member of the State Bar of Michigan and the American Bar Association. He is a past officer and board member of the San Francisco Intellectual Property Law Association.

Mr. Basile maintains an AV rating from Martindale-Hubbell. He is listed the International Who's Who of e-Commerce Lawyers (Law Business Research).
